Filipino lawmaker criticizes Singapore over Taylor Swift deal, calling it inappropriate for good neighbors
There has been disappointment among some Filipino Swifties due to Manila not being included in The Eras Tour, and they have been expressing their frustrations on social media.
Many have highlighted the lack of suitable concert infrastructure in the Philippines to accommodate Taylor Swift’s concerts, with the Philippine Arena being the largest venue in the country but not meeting the requirements for The Eras Tour.
Filipino Swifties have resorted to purchasing tickets for Swift’s concerts in nearby countries like Singapore, Japan, and Australia.
One Filipino Swiftie, Ms Alexandra Balane, acknowledged the lack of facilities in Manila for the tour and was surprised to find out that Singapore was the only South-east Asian stop. Despite this, she still bought tickets for the Singapore concerts.
Another fan, Leah Urtula, shared similar sentiments and preferred watching Swift in Singapore due to the country’s infrastructure and capacity to host such large events.
Some territories in the region, feeling the loss of opportunities from not hosting the tour, have promised to improve their infrastructure and offerings to attract world-class acts in the future.
Additionally, some Filipino Swifties have fallen victim to a scam involving fake Eras Tour tickets for Singapore, leading to a case being filed with the authorities for investigation.
