The 41-year-old anchor’s tenure with the leading news network has come to an end. In an email to her colleagues following CEO Thompson’s announcement, Harlow thanked him, producer Amy Entelis, and the CNN management team for their support and understanding. She joined CNN in 2008 at the age of 25 and covered impactful stories for 16 years before deciding to leave the network.
Harlow discussed the ups and downs of modern journalism but emphasized that “the pursuit of truth” is at the core of CNN. She expressed her continued support and admiration for the network, acknowledging the opportunities it provided her to travel the world and grow as a leader.
CEO Thompson and producer Entelis praised Harlow for her dedicated work at CNN in their official statements about her departure. Harlow’s decision to leave comes after former CEO Chris Licht and anchor Don Lemon also parted ways with the network.
Why did Poppy Harlow leave CNN?
CNN had plans to revamp its morning lineup under former CEO Licht, with Harlow set to host CNN This Morning. However, the show was canceled in February 2024 by new CEO Thompson due to lack of viewership. Harlow found herself without a project after the show’s cancellation and decided it was time for a new adventure.
Harlow’s immediate future involves spending time with her family and supporting the evolution of journalism. Despite leaving CNN, she remains grateful for her time at the network and looks forward to what the future holds.
