Heeramandi actor Shekhar Suman says he would rather be compared to Aamir Khan than settle for mediocrity

Shekhar Suman doesn’t consider Heeramandi as his ‘comeback’
During an interview with The Indian Express, Shekhar Suman, a popular figure in the entertainment industry, discussed his role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which has been receiving high praise. While his fans believe he is back in the spotlight, the actor says, ‘It is never a comeback.’
Explaining his perspective, the actor added, “I am primarily a theatre actor. I wait for the right role to come along. There may be breaks, gaps, because the role needs to excite me. I don’t work just to be visible in 10 OTT series or five films.”
Comparing himself to legends like Dilip Kumar and Aamir Khan, he revealed, “I have learned from Dilip Kumar. He would do one film every two to three years. Aamir Khan also paces himself so that people eagerly anticipate his work. Falling into mediocrity is painful for an actor. Realizing you’ve made a mistake in the middle of a show or a film is the worst feeling,” he clarified.
He also mentioned that he doesn’t see Sanjay Leela Bhansali as a taskmaster, contrary to popular belief. “I don’t think of him that way. He is a perfectionist in a positive manner, striving for excellence,” added the Tridev actor.
The eight-part period drama web series was released on Netflix on May 1, 2022, and has garnered positive reviews from fans and critics alike.
