Billy Porter to be honored with the 2024 Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award

Billy Porter will be honored with the 2024 Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award for his advocacy and support of the LGBTQ+ communities. 

The announcement of this honor on Tuesday recognized Porter’s work with The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, the Entertainment Community Fund, and other charitable organizations. The Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award is presented annually to a member of the theater community who has shown dedication to humanitarian and charitable causes.

Porter serves as an ambassador for The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation and sits on the board of trustees for the Entertainment Community Fund. He has also collaborated with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, HRC (Human Rights Campaign), GLAAD, and Planned Parenthood.

In addition to his film roles in “80 for Brady” and “Our Son,” Porter has an extensive theater background, including his Tony Award-winning performance as Lola in the musical “Kinky Boots.”

Jason Laks, interim president of The Broadway League, and Heather Hitchens, president and CEO of the American Theatre Wing, expressed their admiration for Porter’s contributions to the LGBTQ+ community. They highlighted his support for various organizations and praised his work on stage and screen.

The Tony Awards ceremony is set to take place on June 16 at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York.
