Amanda Seales Denies Accusations of Being a ‘Mean Girl’ on the Insecure Set, Calls the Narrative ‘False’

Rumors have been circulating for quite some time about a dispute between Amanda Seales and Insecure creator cum co-star, Issa Rae. Seales recently addressed the issue on the Club Shay Shay podcast with Shannon Sharpe. A major source of Seales’ frustration was Rae’s publicist. The fact that Rae did not step in on Seales’ behalf made her feel as though Rae was not supporting her.

Amanda Seales puts an end to rumors about her feud with Issa Rae

During a new interview on the Club Shay Shay podcast, the 42-year-old actress addressed accusations of being a bully while filming the hit HBO series. She denied the claims, stating that she could have easily been removed from the set if she had behaved poorly.

“The narrative that people continue to spread about me is completely false. They keep saying that I’m a mean girl on set, that I mistreat people, but that is not true,” Seales told Shannon Sharpe, the podcast host.

Seales and Rae’s relationship soured in 2019 after Seales was escorted out of an Insecure event in Hollywood by Rae’s publicist, Vanessa Anderson. Rae reached out to Seales two days later to clarify that she was not involved in the incident and offered to speak with Anderson.

Seales, who had previously avoided discussing the controversy, admitted that Anderson did not like her when they spoke on the phone.

Shouldn’t Issa Rae have defended Seales?

“I have never spoken about this publicly because protecting Issa has always been very important to me,” Seales said. She acknowledged Rae’s success in the industry but emphasized that she did not desire the same level of fame or fortune.

Seales explained the strained working relationship between her and Rae, noting instances where she felt unsupported and excluded by her co-stars. Despite her experiences, Seales expressed that she had always protected Rae but did not feel the same reciprocity.

“She wasn’t empowering to me. It didn’t feel like she had my back. I’m only sharing part of the story, but that was my reality. I have always protected her because I felt it was my duty. That is no longer the case,” Seales concluded.
