Zayn Malik’s Sister Encourages Compassion Following Liam Payne’s Passing
Liam started to battle alcohol addiction in the years leading up to the start of One Direction’s indefinite hiatus in 2016.
“The issue we faced in the band—and I’m not pointing fingers or complaining, I don’t want to come across as whiny or self-pitying, ‘Oh my god, look at my life,’ or anything like that—but it seemed to me that when we were in the band, the best way to keep us safe because of our massive popularity was to just keep us locked in our rooms,” he shared on a podcast. “And, of course, what’s usually in the room? A minibar.”
Doniya’s post also included a snippet of Liam opening up about his struggles with mental health on the 2019 special Ant Middleton And Liam Payne: Straight Talking.
“There are moments when that level of loneliness and constant scrutiny gets to you,” the singer admitted. “Every now and then, you ask yourself, when will this all end?”
He went on, saying, “Under certain circumstances, I consider myself fortunate to still be here.”
