Jimmy Kimmel Playfully Trolls Jon Stewart for Emmy Awards Win
Jimmy Kimmel knows how to steal a comedic moment and shine on stage! The renowned host humorously roasted Jon Stewart after Stewart and The Daily Show team won the award for Outstanding Talk Series at the prestigious 2024 Emmy Awards. Kimmel playfully teased him.
He jokingly called out Stewart for his return to the Comedy Central series after nine years of stepping away. “And that lesson is: Jon Stewart, you should be ashamed of yourself. You said you were retiring,” Jimmy Kimmel quipped as he took the stage following the Emmy ceremony’s In Memoriam segment.
His roast followed a tribute to the late Bob Newhart, who’s photo was shown to the audience.
Kimmel’s talk show on ABC was nominated alongside The Daily Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for Outstanding Talk Series. Jon Stewart’s win marked his 23rd Emmy and the first since his win for Outstanding Live Variety Special in 2021.
In 2023, The Daily Show won an Emmy for Trevor Noah’s final season as host, the first win post Jon Stewart’s departure in 2015. Stewart had previously hosted his own show on MTV before taking over The Daily Show in 1999.
He is also an author of three books and made his directorial debut with the film Rosewater. Meanwhile, Kimmel has been hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! since 2003, making it one of the longest-running shows on TV.
