The Reason Why Whoopi Goldberg Is Supporting Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker
Despite the backlash online over the NFL player’s comments, many calling for his dismissal from the team, Whoopi Goldberg held firm in her belief that he should not be fired.
She acknowledged that similar situations have happened to her and her co-hosts on The View, stating, “If you say to somebody, ‘I don’t like what you said and so I’m going to get your job taken away because you disagree with me,’ for me that is an issue. That is why I am standing up for him.”
At present, no action has been taken against Harrison Butker, but the NFL has distanced itself from his comments.
“Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity,” said Jonathan Beane, the NFL’s senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer, in a statement to People. “His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”
