Jannik Sinner has faced an unfortunate setback—off the court this time.
The Italian tennis sensation, currently holding the top spot in the men’s rankings, has had to withdraw from the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“After a successful week of clay training, I started feeling unwell,” Jannik shared on his X account on July 24, translated from Italian. “After a few days of rest, a doctor diagnosed me with tonsillitis and strongly advised against competing.”
The 22-year-old, who was looking forward to his Olympic debut, expressed his disappointment, stating, “Missing the Games is a huge letdown as it was a major goal for this season. I was eager to represent my country in this significant event.”
Despite his absence, he assured his support for his fellow athletes.
“Wishing all the best to the Italian athletes, I will cheer for them from home,” concluded the reigning Australian Open champion. “Forza Italia.”
