On December 11, 2008, Phoenix police conducted a search at the Turney residence regarding Alissa’s disappearance.
During the search, authorities were primarily seeking documents, tapes, and videos but were surprised to discover multiple firearms, ammunition, and 26 homemade pipe bombs on the premises, as reported by the FBI’s Phoenix division.
In addition, a van found on the property contained containers of propane and bleach, with nails concealed in the wheel wells, according to Andersen in Family Secrets. The investigation also unveiled several envelopes in a safe, each addressed to different media outlets and containing a thumb drive. The drive held a manifesto in which Michael accused the electricians’ union of being involved in Alissa’s abduction and murder, detailing his plan to retaliate by driving his rigged van into the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers’ union hall.
The manifesto was labeled “Diary of a Madman Martyr.”
Upon his arrest that day, Michael was found carrying two pistols, seven loaded magazines, a knife, and a recording device, as disclosed by Det. Stuart Somershoe to ABC News in 2009.
