Sam Taylor-Johnson Questions Society’s Obsession with Relationship Age-Gaps
Sam Taylor-Johnson believes that age-gap storylines have been overdone to the point of being cliché.
When asked about their interest in watching movies with significant age differences in relationships, referred to as “May December” movies, the director of Fifty Shades of Grey, Sam, who is 57, and her husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who is 23 years younger than her, had a clear response.
“Not at all,” Sam said in an interview published on May 17 by Time. “I think Aaron would say the same. We don’t see each other in that way. Our connection is deeper, based on our souls and hearts, and we live our lives in a beautiful loving way.”
She added, “It’s strange to me when people examine or question our relationship. Love is love, and when it happens, it happens.”
This isn’t the first time Aaron, 33, and Sam, who have daughters Wylda (13) and Romy Hero (11), as well as Sam’s daughters Angelica (25) and Jessie (15) from her previous marriage to Jay Jopling, have addressed comments about their 12-year marriage.
Just two months ago, Aaron mentioned that given his early start in the entertainment industry at age 6, getting married at 22 wasn’t particularly unusual for him.
