Rumer Willis has been inspired by mom Demi Moore, but she isn’t just following in her mother’s footsteps when it comes to parenting her own daughter, Louetta Isley Thomas Willis.
“We’re in a different time, with so much more information,” Rumer told E! News’ Francesca Amiker at the premiere of her film My Divorce Party during the 24th Annual Beverly Hills Film Festival. “My mom will suggest things, and I’ll say, ‘Actually, based on what I’ve been reading, that’s not recommended anymore.'”
Rather than thinking she has all the answers, Rumer is intrigued by the fact that she’s not just copying her mom’s decisions as a parent. She shares 12-month-old Lou with partner Derek Richard Thomas.
“As you transition from maiden to motherhood and have a close relationship with your mom, there’s a separation as you find your own path as a mother,” Rumer explained. “I take things I love from her, but also want to explore on my own.”
She added with a chuckle, “Ultimately, we end up making mistakes as parents, just in different ways, right?”
