The Debate Sparked by Ingrid Andress’ National Anthem Performance
Ingrid Andress‘ rendition of the National Anthem received mixed reviews.
At the Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas on July 15, the four-time Grammy nominee’s unique styling of the “Star-Spangled Banner” sparked debate.
The 32-year-old took liberties with the anthem, adjusting the octave in a stylistic manner that divided opinions. Some Major League Baseball fans took to online platforms to share their thoughts.
“I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person,” one individual commented on X (formerly Twitter) after the performance. “But that was one of the worst national anthems I think I’ve ever heard in my whole life.”
Online, comparisons were drawn between the “Wishful Drinking” singer’s rendition and Maya Rudolph‘s satirical version of the National Anthem on a 2006 episode of Saturday Night Live. A user shared a clip of Rudolph’s exaggerated performance, jokingly stating, “Live shot of Ingrid Andress singing the national anthem.“
