Ina Garten Shares The Challenges She Faced That Nearly Led To Divorce In Her 55-Year Marriage With Jeffrey Garten
“After much consideration, I found myself contemplating the possibility of divorce at my lowest point,” she shared. “Even though I loved Jeffrey dearly and didn’t want to cause him any pain, I felt the need to suggest a separation as a starting point.”
Feeling torn between different worlds, the Food Network star made a conscious effort to challenge the norms of a traditional marital relationship and advocated for therapy.
“Jeffrey’s willingness to attend therapy was a significant step towards saving our marriage,” she reflected. “His commitment to showing me he was serious about working on our relationship was truly important.”
Today, the couple is stronger than ever as they approach their 56th wedding anniversary in December.
“We spent six weeks discussing our issues, listening to each other, and truly understanding one another’s perspectives,” she explained. “We recognized the need to work together as equals, taking care of one another and making gradual changes for the better.”
Their love story began when they met in a college library and instantly knew it was meant to be, leading to their first date on the very same day.
