During a February 2021 episode of her podcast Empty Inside, former iCarly star Jennette McCurdy revealed to guest Anna Faris that she made the decision to step away from acting a few years ago. She is now focusing on opportunities in writing, directing, and hosting the podcast.
In her 2022 memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette expressed her shame and resentment towards her past acting roles. She felt unfulfilled and embarrassed by the cheesy roles she played from the ages of 13 to 21. She recalled feeling embarrassed by her Nickelodeon show even at the young age of 15.
Despite her negative experiences, Jennette hasn’t completely ruled out a return to acting. In an interview with E! News in October 2022, she expressed a newfound openness to exploring acting again through writing. She believes that creating a role for herself could potentially allow her to approach acting without the baggage she carried for so long.
