Emilia Clarke’s Fears of Being Fired from Game of Thrones
Emilia Clarke is reflecting on her harrowing health journey.
Five years after revealing she endured two brain aneurysms while filming Game of Thrones in its early years, the actress shared her experience, including her fear of losing her role as Daenerys Targeryen.
“When you have a brain injury, your sense of self changes dramatically, and all the insecurities you have at work intensify overnight,” Emilia explained in a Big Issue interview published on June 10. “Our biggest fear was: ‘Am I going to be fired? Do they think I can’t handle the job?'”
At 37, Emilia shared that when her first aneurysm, which resulted in a stroke and subarachnoid hemorrhage, happened between filming season one and season two of the show, she was determined to get back to work quickly. She returned to set within weeks, stating, “If I’m going to die, it might as well be on live TV.”
