The outrage over Caitlin Clark’s WNBA salary
Caitlin Clark may have achieved a historic milestone in college basketball, but her earnings as a professional player won’t reflect that success.
Upon being selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, fans were disappointed to learn that the former University of Iowa standout will only make $338,056 over the course of four years, as outlined in the league’s collective bargaining agreement.
As per the 2024 WBNA rookie scale for the top four picks, Caitlin, alongside Cameron Brink, Kamilla Cardoso, and Rickea Jackson, will receive a base salary of $76,535 in the first year, $78,066 in the second year, $85,873 in the third year, with an option of $97,582 in the fourth year.
Despite Caitlin’s groundbreaking achievement as the top scorer in NCAA Division I basketball history in March, her salary with the Indiana Fever pales in comparison to that of the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA draft, Victor Wembanyama. Victor signed a lucrative $55 million contract with the San Antonio Spurs, earning $12.1 million in his first season, as reported by Spotrac.
