Actor Andrew Keegan Addresses Claims of Being a Cult Leader: 10 Things You Need to Know
One thing Andrew Keegan dislikes is clickbait.
Recent headlines suggested that the actor from 10 Things I Hate About You was once a cult leader. So, Andrew decided to clarify the situation. Now, he is reflecting on why he addressed the rumors with his friend Danielle Fishel.
Speaking exclusively to E! News at 90s Con on March 16, Andrew said, “We were recording the podcast for Pod Meets World, and Danielle is a close friend. We were just having a casual chat on the podcast. It wasn’t meant to be sensationalized—people just got excited about it. But it’s definitely an interesting situation.”
He went on to explain, “During that conversation, I emphasized how it’s all clickbait. They use a word like ‘cult’ to exaggerate the reality.”
So, what really happened when the ‘90s star purchased an abandoned temple in 2014 to hold spiritual gatherings?
“In Venice, there was a unique group of free-spirited individuals,” Andrew revealed in the podcast episode on Feb. 12. “I got connected with some people and we saw an opportunity. The old Hare Krishna Temple was just sitting there empty, so we thought, ‘Why not bring people together and revitalize this place?'”
