Actress Shelley Duvall, Famous for Her Role in The Shining, Dies at 75
Shelly Duvall, known for her roles in films like The Shining and Nashville, passed away at the age of 75 on Thursday. The cause of death was complications of diabetes, confirmed by Duvall’s partner. She was at her Texas home when she passed away, just days after celebrating her birthday on July 7.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Duvall’s boyfriend shared, “My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend has left us. Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley.”
Who was Shelley Duvall?
Born on July 7, 1949, in Texas, Duvall originally planned to study science after high school. However, she was discovered by the crew of the film Brewster McCloud, leading to her first onscreen role. She went on to star in films like Thieves Like Us and gained fame for her role in The Shining.
In an interview with People Magazine, Duvall spoke about receiving praise from her director after her performance in Thieves Like Us and the challenges of filming with Stanley Kubrick in The Shining.
