Who is the Ruler After the Reign of King Charles III?
When Jay-Z and Kanye West released Watch the Throne in 2011, they weren’t referencing the British royal family.
However, if you’re a follower of the royal family, you could interpret it in that way, considering that all eyes are always on the monarchy and the future changes it may bring.
The most significant change occurred in September 2022 when Queen Elizabeth II—Britain’s longest-reigning monarch—passed away and her oldest son King Charles III (then Prince Charles) immediately became the ruler in accordance with protocol.
With Charles’s title change—following the news that he had started cancer treatment, as revealed by Buckingham Palace on Feb. 5—promotions were also given to the rest of the family.
Prince William assumed the title of Prince of Wales and became the heir apparent. Meanwhile, the children of Kate Middleton and William, Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8), and Prince Louis (5), also moved closer to the throne.
