Exploring Liam Hemsworth’s Character: Who Is Sergeant JJ Kinney in Land of Bad?
Liam Hemsworth takes on a key role in Land of Bad, a military action movie released this year. An intriguing story unfolds with his on-screen presence alongside Russell Crowe in the Philippines. The plot revolves around Reaper (played by Russell Crowe), who is assigned the task of safely escorting rookie sergeant JJ Kinney (portrayed by Liam Hemsworth) back home after a mission to rescue a CIA agent goes awry. With an ensemble cast and an engaging storyline, this movie is definitely worth watching.
Grueling training for authenticity
Director William Eubank subjected the actors to intense training to ensure their performances appeared authentic. To truly embody their characters, Eubank shadowed real military personnel. In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Eubank described this training as exhaustive.
The training included learning how to reload guns and handle weapons, allowing Crowe and Hemsworth to seamlessly step into their roles. Liam Hemsworth, in particular, underwent specialized training for his character.
What JTAC means
In the film, JJ Kinney is a Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC). JTACs are responsible for coordinating air and ground forces, identifying enemies, and preventing friendly fire and civilian casualties during aircraft attacks. For accuracy, Eubank consulted with a real JTAC who shared the same name as Hemsworth’s character and even visited the studio in Australia.
Hemsworth put in extensive groundwork for this role. His preparations for Land of Bad were distinct because he was transitioning from this role to a new one in The Witcher. Serving as a crucial link between himself and Reaper, he delved deep into understanding the role of a JTAC.
On the battlefield, Kinney’s instructions to Grimm on precise bomb drops are crucial for rescuing Sergeant Bishop, who is held captive by Abu Sayyaf’s forces.
Importance of the Delta Force team
Although he shares many lines with Reaper, Kinney’s limited face-to-face scenes indicate he is the JTAC of the Delta Force Team. His primary role involves providing essential guidance to ensure effective attacks by Grimm.
This role is pivotal for mission success as it entails directing soldiers during combat. Therefore, accurate bomb placements lead to the successful extraction from the Abu Sayyaf prisoners’ camp.
In Land of Bad, Liam Hemsworth portrays a significant character emphasizing the vital and complex role of a JTAC during military operations. This year’s standout military action film stands out for its authentic approach and thorough training of the actors.
