Embracing certain trends, like painting his nails, may have helped Bobby Shmurda’s music career, according to the Shmoney Dance trendsetter. His latest mixtape, Shmurdagotcash, was released in 2022. Recently, the Miami-born rapper expressed frustration over his music being blacklisted by American DSP through an Instagram post.
Who is Bobby Shmurda?
For almost two years, he has taken a hiatus from his music career. His personal project was a mixtape called Shmurdagotcash. He recently communicated with his fans on social media, hinting at a possible comeback.
Besides working with Taylor-Lemire on “On Something” to introduce fans to “venture rap,” Shmurda has collaborated with Eli Taylor-Lemire on the same song, with its music video released on May 10, 2024. It discusses his business ventures as a venture capitalist.
Shmurda’s debut album with Epic Records signee Shmurda’s debut album was set to be released in 2016 but was canceled due to his imprisonment. Later, he was featured on 6ix9ine’s single “Stoopid,” which peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The artist previously accused an ex-business partner of a damaging “propaganda campaign.”
Shmurda posted an Instagram reel featuring Meek Mill’s #RapTherapy freestyle. He focused on a part of the intro monologue, stating, “These are propaganda campaigns. They’ll pay like 1k people to go online and just post negative things because they know that if that one thing, if it was discovered what it’ll really do, it’s gonna offset their profits.” He also mentioned that the entertainment industry often uses such tactics for marketing purposes.
This could be related to an incident at a London club recently. However, Bobby was only able to perform for a few minutes before being interrupted. Shmurda had altercations with club promoters, eventually spitting on a customer while his team intervened. Despite this, the event continued without any further reports. It’s unclear if this incident falls under the broader propaganda campaign mentioned by Shmurda.
On Sunday, June 2, the Brooklyn rapper shared a photo of his unpainted nails on Instagram, expressing frustration with fans asking for new music.
“Stop asking me to drop music. American DSP and music blogs, which they also own, don’t allow real Bodman on playlists because I don’t paint my fingers,” the 29-year-old wrote on his Instagram. He added, “So it’s pointless until something is done with the people who own, run, and manage these platforms.”
In this social media post, he claimed that the music industry favors people involved in androgynous activities, locking him out of playlists. This elicited mixed reactions from fans, with some supporting him and others openly criticizing him.
