Get to Know Abby & Brittany Hensel: The Conjoined Twins Making Waves
The women function as one body together. Abby is in charge of the right side and Brittany controls the left, resulting in their coordination always being deeply synchronized. They were even able to participate in sports like basketball and softball, and obtained separate driver’s licenses at 16. Abby controls the pedals and gear shift, while Brittany handles the blinker and lights, with both of them steering.
“We each had to take the test,” they mentioned on their TLC series. “We both passed—obviously.”
Aside from their brief time on reality TV and documentaries, the sisters have chosen to maintain a private life in their hometown of Minnesota, where they now reside with Abby’s husband Josh and his 8-year-old daughter Isabella. They both teach fifth grade at an elementary school.
Despite being incredibly close and accomplishing tasks like work and driving in perfect sync, the twins and their loved ones emphasize the importance of treating them as individuals.
“We are totally different people,” Brittany mentioned in their 2007 documentary. “We usually negotiate with each other like, ‘If you do this, I’ll do that.’ Or we take turns.”
Abby also agreed, “We take turns a lot.”
