Govinda gifts his shirt to Raaj Kumar, who repurposes it as a handkerchief.
Govinda, renowned for movies like Hero No.1, Coolie No.1, Hadh Kar Di Aapne, and Partner, is considered one of the top actors in the Hindi film industry. Despite being absent from the silver screen for a while now, Govinda had a phase where he signed “70 films” after his debut, some of which he had to abandon later on.
While working with his co-star Raaj Kumar in the 1989 film Jung Baaz, Govinda was left speechless.
Govinda gifted Raaj Kumar a shirt on the Jung Baaz set
In a recent interview with Bollywood Thikana, filmmaker Mehul Kumar, who directed Jung Baaz, recalled an incident involving Govinda and Raaj Kumar on set.
“Govinda came wearing a shirt and Raaj sahab complimented him. Govinda thought the praise was genuine, so he took off the shirt and gifted it to Raaj sahab,” Kumar said.
“The next day, Raaj sahab transformed the shirt into a handkerchief and used it to clean his hands on set,” he added.
Reflecting on Govinda’s reaction, the director mentioned that the actor didn’t respond, but he might have felt upset about it.
Recollection of Raaj Kumar asking about Govinda’s personality, as per Mehul Kumar
In the same interview, Mehul Kumar remembered how Raaj Kumar often saw Govinda dancing on set. Recalling Raaj Kumar’s question about why Govinda kept dancing, the director responded that Govinda was a dancer, but the Tirangaa actor remained unconvinced.
Prior to Jung Baaz, Govinda and Raaj Kumar had previously collaborated in Marte Dum Tak (1987).
Raaj Kumar is known for his roles in films like Saudagar, Waqt, Mother India, Pakeezah, Humraaz, Dil Ek Mandir, Heer Ranjha, and Neel Kamal.
