Govinda and David Dhawan bring in Ganesh Acharya to choreograph a song in Coolie No.1, replacing Saroj Khan
Govinda collaborated with David Dhawan in multiple movies during the 90s. Known for his comedy and dance moves, Govinda’s dance talents were highlighted in his films, thanks to choreographer Ganesh Acharya who worked with him in 150 movies. Recently, Ganesh Acharya reminisced about how Govinda and David Dhawan chose him over the late choreographer Saroj Khan for Coolie No. 1 (1995).
On the Friday Talkies podcast, Ganesh Acharya shared the story of choreographing the popular song “Husn Hai Suhana” from Coolie No. 1, which featured Govinda and Karisma Kapoor. He reflected on the times when Saroj Khan and Chinni Prakash were the prominent choreographers in the industry, but Govinda and David Dhawan gave him the opportunity.
“Producer Ramesh Taurani wanted such a big hit song to be done by Saroj ji. Govinda and David Dhawan wanted me to do this song,” recalled the Coolie No. 1 choreographer.
Ganesh Acharya revealed that whenever dates were fixed with Saroj Khan, Govinda and David Dhawan claimed they were unavailable. Before the film’s release, they recommended Acharya’s name to the producer on the dates when Saroj and Chinni were unavailable.
He also shared how he started working with Govinda after his sister suggested that his dancing style would complement the actor. Despite facing challenges, Acharya’s perseverance paid off when Govinda asked him to choreograph a song for the film Prem Shakti in 1994.
Having worked as a choreographer in various Govinda movies, including Saajan Chale Sasural, Chhote Sarkar, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Haseena Maan Jayegi, Hadh Kar Di Aapne, and more, Ganesh Acharya had a fruitful collaboration with the actor.
