What Would Mark Hamill Say to Carrie Fisher Today in the World of Star Wars
Mark Hamill still feels the force of Carrie Fisher’s absence.
Nearly eight years after the actress passed away in 2016, her Star Wars co-star and longtime friend admitted that her absence still weighs heavily on him.
“I’ve never stopped missing her,” Hamill told E! News’ Francesca Amiker at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of The Wild Robot. “When I spent time with Carrie, laughter was guaranteed all day long.”
Despite their close bond, Hamill acknowledged that they didn’t always see eye to eye. “We had a brother and sister connection where we would have our disagreements,” he revealed. “But then, a few days later, everything would be forgotten. She was amazing, and her loss is something that I still struggle to come to terms with.”
If given the chance, what would he say to her now? Simply, “I love you and I miss you.”
Hamill and Fisher first met when they were cast as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia in the original Star Wars film in 1977. Their on-screen partnership continued in the subsequent two films of the original trilogy. Although they lost touch for a period, they reconnected both professionally and personally, appearing together again in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens and once more in 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, released after Fisher’s passing on Dec. 27, 2016.
