Lily Gladstone has been receiving praise for her role as a cop in the Hulu series Under the Bridge. Despite the audience’s admiration for Gladstone’s performance, she had three specific requirements from the producers before agreeing to play the role of a cop on the show.
What were Lily Gladstone’s requirements before playing a cop?
Variety reported that one of the requirements Gladstone had before signing up for the role was that her character, Cam, had to be from Vancouver. Although the character moves to the city in the storyline, Gladstone had her own reasons for this decision. She stated, “I wanted her internal compass to be pointing to Vancouver for a different reason.”
Another requirement was to pay tribute to Chief Dan George, the first indigenous North American actor nominated for an Academy Award in 1971. The actress also wanted to portray a cop who could stand up for herself without being used against her own people.
Lily Gladstone also commented on viewers’ thoughts about campaigning her character in Killers of the Flower Moon. Despite being nominated for an Oscar, she believes campaigning for her character was not about improving her odds or boosting her career.
