Foo Fighters’ Representative States Band Did Not Give Permission for Donald Trump to Use My Hero During RFK Jr. Rally
Donald Trump recently faced disapproval from Foo Fighters for using their song My Hero at a rally. Similar to Beyoncé and Celine Dion, the band members are against the unauthorized usage of their music by the former President.
During a rally in Glendale Arizona where Robert F Kennedy Jr endorsed Donald Trump last week, the song My Hero was played without the band’s consent. Dave Grohl, the frontman of the band, clarified that they did not permit the use of their music at this rally.
When asked by a fan if they had allowed Trump to use My Hero, the band responded on social media saying, “No.” Later, a band representative mentioned to Entertainment Weekly that all profits from the concert would be donated to Vice President Kamala Harris’ re-election campaign.
The band’s representative stated, “Foo Fighters were not asked permission, and if they were, they would not have granted it.”
This is not the first time Foo Fighters have objected to the unauthorized use of their song My Hero. They previously criticized the use of the song in Republican nominee John McCain’s 2008 campaign, stating it distorted the original message of celebrating ordinary individuals’ potential for greatness.
In an interview with GQ magazine in 2018, Dave Grohl expressed his disapproval towards Trump, saying, “I am ashamed of our president.” He also criticized the Trump administration’s push to reopen schools during the COVID-19 pandemic without proper vaccination in a 2020 YouTube video.
Several artists, including Beyoncé and Celine Dion, have rejected Trump’s requests to use their music at his rallies. Beyoncé reportedly threatened legal action after her song Freedom was used in a campaign video, while Celine Dion’s team denounced the unauthorized use of My Heart Will Go On at a recent rally in Montana.
Foo Fighters have consistently condemned politicians for illegally using their songs and expressed disappointment at the lack of respect for creativity and intellectual property.
