JoJo turned down the role of Hannah Montana to focus on her music career. Instead, she made her acting debut as Hailey in a 2006 movie and also appeared in the family comedy R.V.
In 2004, JoJo became the youngest solo artist to earn a No. 1 hit with “Leave (Get Out)” before her career hit a roadblock. Her record label refused to release her new music as she pursued acting, leading to a legal battle to be released from her contract. The case with Blackground was finally settled in 2013, allowing JoJo to sign another record contract. She re-recorded her first two albums and singles owned by Blackground, established her own record label through Warner Records, and released her acclaimed album, Good to Know.
JoJo made headlines in 2021 when she announced her engagement to actor Dexter Darden.
