Andrew Garfield Reflects on Losing Himself During Intimate Scene with Florence Pugh in We Live In Time
Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh were so engrossed in filming an intimate scene for their movie We Live in Time that they didn’t hear the director yelling cut. The film explores themes of love, life, and death, requiring the actors to fully immerse themselves in their characters’ emotions. Though it was initially awkward, Garfield and Pugh eventually found their rhythm and supported each other’s impulses during filming.
In the upcoming romantic drama, Garfield and Pugh play married couple Tobias and Almut. The scene in question involved a tender moment between the characters that required them to be intimately close. During a New York screening, Garfield humorously recalled the awkwardness between the leads.
Garfield imitated his awkward demeanor, asking, “How’s this? May I kiss you now? You don’t have to, even though we’re pretending to be married,” which led to laughter from the audience. He praised Pugh for cutting through the awkwardness with her confidence and laughter.
When filming a passionate sex scene, Garfield and Pugh got carried away. Initially sticking to the choreographed scene, the passion of the moment led them to improvise. Garfield mentioned that they went further than intended because they didn’t hear the word ‘cut’, creating a safe space to push boundaries for better outcomes.
Realizing the take was too long, Garfield looked up to see the camera operator not filming them anymore. The movie We Live in Time is set to premiere on October 11 in the US and January 1 in the UK.
