Miley Cyrus had an unplanned shout out to make during her 2024 Grammys performance Sunday night.

While performing “Flowers” during the awards show, Cyrus — who had taken the stage moments earlier when winning her first-ever Grammy for best pop solo performance — screamed out amid the lyrics, “I just won my first Grammy!” during her performance.

The singer, sporting a silver sequence dress on stage, decided to forgo backup dancers and show off her own choreography while singing the hit track.

Also mid-song, Cyrus called out the audience for not singing along with her, saying, “Why you acting like you don’t know this song?” — which, is a great question given that the song went viral on social media following its released in January 2023.

Several stars in the audience, including Oprah, Taylor Swift and John Legend, proceeded to get up and sing and dance along with the singer.

Prior to taking the stage, Cyrus had shared some heartfelt words about the song and how special it is for her to see her fans enjoying it. “When I wrote ‘Flowers,’ I think part of its magic is that I had no expectations,” she said. “I have a healthy relationship with success and numbers, and know that even though they may excite me, they do not define me.”

She continued, “When I see other people dancing to ‘Flowers’ the way that I dance to ‘Flowers,’ it makes me so happy that I could cry.”

The singer’s Grammys performance was the first time she has performed the song on television since it debuted. Following its release, the track went on to become a viral sensation on social media and spent eight consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The singer scored six Grammy nominations total this year, including song of the year and record of the year for “Flowers.” Her latest album, Endless Summer Vacation, is up for album of the year and pop vocal album. She was also nominated for best pop duo/group performance for “Thousand Miles” with Brandi Carlile.

The “Used To Be Young” was among several other performers who are set to take to the Grammys stage Sunday, including SZA, Joni Mitchell, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, U2, Travis Scott and Luke Combs.

Trevor Noah hosted the 66th annual Grammy Awards, which aired live from Los Angeles. Find the complete list of the night’s winners here.
