Karlovy Vary Awards to be Given to Viggo Mortensen, Daniel Brühl, Clive Owen
Viggo Mortenson, Daniel Brühl, and Clive Owen are set to receive honors at the 58th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) this year.
Actor-director Mortensen will receive the KVIFF President’s Award on opening night, June 28, and will also present his feminist western The Dead Don’t Hurt as the festival’s opening film.
German-Spanish star Brühl will also be honored at the fest, receiving the KVIFF President’s Award and presenting his directorial debut Next Door. British actor Owen will receive the KVIFF President’s Award at the closing ceremony on July 6.
Last year’s honorees included Alicia Vikander, Ewan McGregor, and Russell Crowe, who wowed the audience with a musical performance.
This year, British electronic music band Kosheen will perform at the opening concert. Benicio del Toro stars in the KVIFF trailer, set to debut during the festival’s opening ceremony.
Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh will present two films at the fest as part of the Kafka retrospective. Screenwriter and director Nicole Holofcener will also be featured with a tribute and screenings of her films.
The competition jury at this year’s KVIFF is led by Christine Vachon and includes Geoffrey Rush, Gábor Reisz, Sjón, and Eliška Křenková.
The 2024 Karlovy Vary fest will take place from June 28 to July 6.
