Venkat Prabhu explains why Vijay starrer The GOAT received mixed reviews; ‘Didn’t connect with…’
Thalapathy Vijay starrer The Greatest of All Time is proving to be one of the top-grossing films of 2024. However, the movie’s climax scene has received mixed reviews due to its reference to CSK. Despite this, Venkat Prabhu recently discussed the ending of The GOAT and its connection to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) cricket team.
In a recent interview with a regional media outlet, Venkat Prabhu mentioned that the strong association with CSK in the film’s conclusion might not have resonated well with audiences outside Tamil Nadu. He expressed, “I think GOAT didn’t connect with Hindi & Telugu viewers because of CSK references. MI & RCB fans often tease me because I’m a die-hard CSK supporter. Being a CSK fan is in my blood and I can’t change that.”
Additionally, Venkat Prabhu shared his plans to release an extended, uncut version of Thalapathy Vijay’s film The GOAT on OTT platforms. The original director’s cut of The GOAT has a runtime of about 3 hours and 40 minutes, which is longer than the 3-hour theatrical version.
The extended OTT version is expected to include all the deleted scenes from the movie, some of which showcase funny moments with Vijay’s younger character. The filmmakers also aim to share these unseen scenes on their social media platforms once the theatrical run of the film concludes.
For those who haven’t seen The GOAT, it features Vijay in dual roles as Gandhi, a member of the Special Anti-Terrorist Squad (SATS), and his son Jeevan. The film concludes with an open-ended climax, setting the stage for the sequel GOAT vs OG. The upcoming movie is rumored to shift the focus from the protagonist to the antagonist, with speculation surrounding the introduction of a new villain, potentially portrayed by Ajith Kumar, who has previously collaborated with Venkat Prabhu in the successful film Mankatha.
