“USA Gymnastics Unveils Dazzling New Uniforms That Will Leave You Speechless”
For the 2024 designs, this year’s athletes had a chance to give input to GK Elite.
“They made it clear that for the Olympics, they prefer red, white, and blue,” said the company’s design director Jeanne Diaz in an interview with NBC News, recalling conversations with the gymnasts. “And they love lots of crystals.”
This is not the first time Team USA has added some sparkle to their performance attire. At the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, the American gymnasts wore leotards embellished with 6,400 crystals, as reported by The New York Times.
To adjust to the added weight, Lee mentioned that she warms up in her competition leotard. “I love how the crystals reflect the arena lights,” she shared with The New York Times on July 10. “I always ask GK for more crystals.”
This year, Team USA’s gymnastics uniforms include pearls for the first time, with 970 pearls in addition to the almost 3,500 crystals on the white Freedom’s Grace Competition leotard, inspired by high-fashion runway gowns.
Lee commented, “I can’t decide which one to wear.”
