Analyzing the Legal Aftermath of Matthew Perry’s Unexpected Passing
Three others have been charged separately and are currently working on plea deals, as stated by prosecutors.
Eric Fleming, aged 54, entered a guilty plea on Aug. 8 for one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine and one count of distribution of ketamine resulting in death, as per prosecutors. According to the indictment, Fleming confessed to acquiring ketamine from Sangha and passing it on to Perry through the actor’s assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa.
Fleming could face a maximum of 25 years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
On Aug. 7, Iwamasa pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to distribute ketamine causing death. According to the revised indictment, the 59-year-old admitted to administering ketamine to Perry multiple times on the day of his death, despite lacking medical training. He could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mark Chavez, aged 54, who previously operated a ketamine clinic in San Diego, California, is scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 30 after agreeing to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine, as per prosecutors.
As stated in the indictment, Chavez acknowledged selling diverted ketamine from his clinic and obtaining more ketamine under false pretenses from a wholesale distributor to transfer to Plasencia.
Chavez is potentially facing up to 10 years in federal prison.
