Akiva Goldsman to Produce Monster High Movie in Collaboration with Universal and Mattel
Universal Studios and Mattel have teamed up for the upcoming feature film based on the 2010 toy line Monster High. Following the success of Barbie, Mattel Studios has been working on a movie centered around dolls and toys. While the film is still in its early stages, it will be produced by Akiva Goldsman.
Regarding the agreements between Hollywood studios and Mattel, the companies have been capitalizing on the IP since the successful release of Barbie, which grossed $1.446 billion.
Statement by Mattel Films chief
Regarding the announcement of the upcoming film and the collaboration with Universal Studios, Robbie Brenner, the CEO of Mattel Films, issued a statement. She emphasized that Monster High helps fans embrace their unique qualities and celebrates individuality. Brenner expressed pride in partnering with Universal Pictures and Akiva Goldsman to spread this important message to audiences globally.
The writer-director’s names have not yet been revealed, but the Oscar-winning producer has been involved with the project from the start.
Acknowledging the opportunity to produce Monster High, Goldsman mentioned, “I’ve been fascinated by Monster High since my daughters were obsessed with the dolls as kids. I’m thrilled to once again collaborate with Robbie Brenner and our friends at Mattel to bring this iconic property to life.”

What is Monster High about?
The storyline of the upcoming film has not been disclosed yet, but Monster High is expected to reintroduce the original doll characters such as Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolfman. The dolls were initially created to represent teenage monsters dealing with high school life and challenges.
Prior to the film, Monster High was adapted into a TV series for Nickelodeon and Paramount+.
Introduced by Mattel in 2010, the Monster High doll line became popular among children. According to Mattel’s official website, Monster High is depicted as a place where werewolves, vampires, sea creatures, and more come together in the hallways.
