United Airlines CEO Addresses Recent Safety Incidents
United Airlines is prioritizing safety above all else.
Following a series of alarming incidents, including the discovery of a missing panel on a Boeing plane on March 15, CEO Scott Kirby reassured passengers that safety is the top concern.
In a statement on March 18, Kirby emphasized, “Safety is our highest priority and is at the center of everything we do. Unfortunately, in the past few weeks, our airline has experienced a number of incidents that are reminders of the importance of safety. While they are all unrelated, I want you to know that these incidents have our attention and have sharpened our focus.”
This month, there have been four incidents involving United flights using Boeing aircraft. In Houston, a Boeing 737-900ER experienced an engine fire after takeoff and a Boeing 737 Max slid off the runway. In San Francisco, a Boeing 777 lost a wheel during takeoff, and in Sydney, a Boeing 777 leaked hydraulic fluid while departing.
“Our team is diligently reviewing each case to understand what happened,” Kirby stated, “and using those findings to enhance our safety training and procedures for all employee groups.”
