X-Men ’97 Creator Beau DeMayo Opens Up About His Experience at Marvel and the Lack of Credits for Disney+ Series Season 2
Marvel Studios made headlines when Beau DeMayo, creator of X-Men ’97, was terminated for undisclosed reasons. Now, five months later, DeMayo has spoken out about his experience working with the iconic franchise.
Having worked on numerous successful projects for Marvel Studios, DeMayo recently revealed on social media that he will not receive credit for the second season of the popular Disney+ animated series. Despite having completed his work on the series prior to his departure, DeMayo’s credit was taken away.
In a detailed post, DeMayo shared an X-Men fan art that he posted on Instagram during Gay Pride month. Subsequently, Marvel Studios notified him of their decision to revoke his credit for X-Men ’97 Season 2.
The fan art features a shirtless version of DeMayo as the X-Men character Cyclops, prompting the creator to discuss a troubling pattern he faced while working on the show.
Marvel Studios confirmed that DeMayo was terminated in March after an internal investigation, citing the egregious nature of the findings. The studio has since cut ties with DeMayo.
Despite reaching an agreement regarding social media usage at the time of his exit, DeMayo continued to tweet about the show, leading to the removal of his credits from season two of X-Men ’97. Sources indicate that his termination was due to allegations of sexual misconduct.
Following DeMayo’s departure, the second season of X-Men ’97 was announced at the D23 Expo 2024, with Matthew Chauncey taking over from DeMayo.
