Celebrities like Tom Holland and Anne Hathaway open up about their sobriety
During May 2023, the former One Direction member marked the milestone of being 100 days sober.
“I feel fantastic,” he stated during that period. “I feel really, really good, and the support from the fans and everyone has been truly amazing.”
His struggle with addiction began during the peak of One Direction’s popularity. “The issue within the band—and I don’t place blame on anyone…But it felt like, when we were in the band, the best way to control us, due to our immense fame, was to keep us in a room. And, naturally, what was in that room? A minibar,” Liam explained. “So at a certain point, I thought, ‘Well, I’ll have a party for one,’ and that behavior just continued for many years.”
Throughout his journey, he has been open about his path to sobriety. “It wasn’t until I saw myself afterwards that I realized, ‘Okay, I need to make changes,'” he reflected in June 2021 when he mentioned being over one month sober at the time. “I saw a few pictures of me on a boat looking bloated, what I like to call ‘pills and booze face’…My face was so much puffier back then. I didn’t like the person I saw, so that’s when I decided to make a change.”
