In a recent interview on Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Tom Hiddleston discussed Loki’s final lines with Anna Sawai. As they delved into the deeper meaning of Loki’s sacrifice in the series, Sawai asked Hiddleston to elaborate on that moment.
Sawai specifically inquired about Loki’s impactful last words, “I know what I want. I know what kind of god I need to be—for you. For all of us.” Hiddleston explained that this line was a nod to a scene from the 2011 film Thor.
Hiddleston shared that the directors asked him for his input on what Loki might say in his final moments. Reflecting on a scene from Thor, Hiddleston decided to echo a similar sentiment but with a transformed meaning emphasizing love, sacrifice, selflessness, and generosity.
After delivering his final words, Loki bid farewell to his friends at the TVA and used his powers to stabilize the multiverse from his throne at the end of time.
The intentional callback by Hiddleston, improvised on set, added a poignant layer to the finale’s last line according to co-director Moorhead. Initially not planned as a callback to Thor, it became an emotional line due to Hiddleston’s suggestion.
Tom Hiddleston is not sure if Loki has a future in the MCU
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Hiddleston was asked about continuing to play the character of Loki in the MCU, to which he gave an ambiguous response. He expressed uncertainty about the character’s future, stating that season 2 felt like a satisfying conclusion.
Hiddleston also remarked that he does not view Loki as a villain but rather as someone who made misguided choices in the past, leading to more generous and heroic decisions now.
Reflecting on the impact of the role on his career, Hiddleston expressed gratitude for the opportunities it has provided, acknowledging that it has changed the course of his life.
