The Unexpected Inspiration Behind Tinashe’s Viral Song “Nasty” Unveiled
Tinashe has got TikTok users dancing.
Her latest track “Nasty” is making waves on social media, and the singer revealed that her nameplate necklace was a major source of inspiration for the song.
“I designed this necklace around Christmas,” Tinashe told E! News at the Alexander Wang Runway Show on June 5. “It has the word ‘nasty’ on it because I’ve always had this nickname in mind, ‘Nastynashe.’
“After making the necklace, I went to the studio and thought, ‘What should I write a song about today?'” the 31-year-old artist shared. “I decided to write about this ‘nasty’ necklace I just made. The chain actually inspired the song.”
The TikTok trend started with an unexpected video. In February, a clip of user Nate Di Winer dancing to soca music was shared on X (formerly Twitter) in April with “Nasty” as the soundtrack. The rest was history!
