Throwback: Mammootty portrayed Mohanlal’s father in a 1982 period film, despite a small age difference of just 9 years
Malayalam movie lovers have long adored superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal. Surprisingly, the two actors once shared the screen as father and son in the 1982 film Padayottam, directed by Jijo Punnoose.
When Mammootty and Mohanlal portrayed father and son
Although only 9 years apart in real life, both Mohanlal and Mammootty have taken on various roles together. Their portrayal as father and son in Padayottam was a standout moment in their careers.
Mammootty’s role as Kamaran in the film was a turning point for him, steering him away from aged characters. The movie drew inspiration from the novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, following a prince seeking revenge on his enemies.
Padayottam boasted an ensemble cast including Prem Nazir, Madhu, Lakshmi, Shankar, Poornima Bhagyaraj, and more. It was a high-budget production at Rs 1 crore compared to the average Malayalam movie production cost of Rs 15 lakh at the time.
Current Projects
Mammootty recently starred in the film Turbo, directed by Vysakh, and is currently filming with Gautham Vasudev Menon for his Malayalam debut. He is also set to appear in the film Bazooka.
On the other hand, Mohanlal is preparing for the release of his fantasy film Barroz, marking his directorial debut. After several delays, the movie is scheduled for release on September 12, 2024.
