Looking back: Leonardo DiCaprio advises Timothee Chalamet to steer clear of superhero roles; Timothee’s response revealed

Timothee Chalamet is one of the most promising actors in Hollywood today. However, he was once advised by Leonardo DiCaprio to steer clear of “superhero movies.” Reflecting on this conversation, the Call Me By Your Name actor also shared the movie that inspired him to pursue acting as a career.

In 2022, Chalamet first revealed that his Dont Look Up co-star had given him this advice. During the launch of the 2024 sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, he provided more personal details.

Speaking to The New York Times during the press tour for Dune: Part Two, Chalamet mentioned that while DiCaprio had advised him against superhero movies, he wouldn’t completely rule them out like DiCaprio did.

“Well, Leonardo DiCaprio said to me, ‘No superhero movies, no hard drugs,’ which I thought was very good,” the Little Woman star shared during the press tour.

Chalamet also mentioned that he follows both of DiCaprio’s advice and credited Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight for sparking his interest in acting.

He also expressed that if a script for a superhero movie is exceptional and with a top director, he would consider taking on such a role.

Chalamet revealed during the New York Film Critics Circle Awards in 2018 that it was after watching The Dark Knight at an “AMC Empire 25 in Times Square” that he considered acting as a career.

Not long after, Chalamet had the opportunity to work with Nolan in the 2014 film Interstellar.

Meanwhile, Chalamet’s Dune co-stars have been involved in either the Marvel or DC franchises. Zendaya and Florence Pugh from Dune: Part Two are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Josh Brolin has appeared in multiple Marvel movies, portraying Cable in Deadpool 2 and Thanos in the Avengers films. Dave Bautista and Stellan Skarsgard are also part of the MCU, while Jason Momoa played Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe.
