Looking back: Kristen Stewart slams Donald Trump as ‘a little baby’ for past tweets about her
Kristen Stewart caused a stir in February 2017 with her response to former President Donald Trump’s tweets. During her hosting of Saturday Night Live (SNL), the actress candidly addressed the comments and revealed her decision to publicly come out in a bold and spontaneous manner.
The controversy stemmed from Trump’s tweets about Stewart’s breakup with Robert Pattinson in 2012. Trump criticized Stewart for allegedly cheating on Pattinson with director Rupert Sanders and advised Pattinson against reconciling with her. Fast forward to February 2017, Stewart directly addressed these comments during her SNL monologue.
Opening her remarks, Stewart boldly stated, “Donald, if you didn’t like me then, you’re probably really not going to like me now. Because I’m hosting SNL and I’m, like, so gay, dude.”
Her decision to publicly come out on national television was seen as a spontaneous moment of honesty. She explained that during discussions with SNL writers, the topic of Trump’s tweets came up, prompting her to address her sexuality.
Stewart was not taken aback by Trump’s remarks, considering them petty and invasive. She remarked, “Of course he had to weigh in on my tarring and feathering. It’s like, ‘What is this 20-year-old who has no idea about life doing to this man?’”
Adding a personal touch, she expressed her frustration with the former President’s focus on her personal life, saying, “He’s such a little baby” and “F*** you, b****!”
The tweets in question were related to a scandal in 2012 when Stewart was photographed kissing Rupert Sanders while still dating Pattinson. Stewart publicly apologized for the incident, and Trump’s tweets were part of the backlash she faced at the time, viewed as an unnecessary intrusion into her private life.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Stewart voiced her exhaustion with the constant attention on her past relationship with Pattinson. She emphasized that they couldn’t keep dwelling on that aspect because it was uncomfortable and weird.
She continued, expressing her frustration with the ongoing scrutiny of her personal life as she had been openly gay with her partner for years. The invasion of privacy was evident in the continued scrutiny she faced.
