Flashback: Anurag Kashyap Visits Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat for a Meal, Discovers His Omelet-Making Skills

Anurag Kashyap, who recently celebrated his birthday, has never had the opportunity to work with Shah Rukh Khan despite attending the same college. While Anurag studied zoology at Hansraj College, University of Delhi in the 90s, SRK graduated in economics from the same college in 1988. Anurag believes that SRK has a charismatic presence that he wouldn’t be able to match. Anurag once visited Shah Rukh’s home, Mannat, to satisfy his hunger and was surprised to find out that SRK knew how to cook omelets.

In a previous interview with Midday in 2020, Anurag Kashyap shared a story about visiting Shah Rukh Khan’s mansion, Mannat, when he was hungry. He recalled how SRK kindly made him omelets.

“I visited Shah Rukh Khan’s house through our college connection. I remember him making me food. All he knew how to cook were omelets. I have done things like that,” the filmmaker mentioned.

Anurag also talked about his struggling days in the 90s when he used to wait outside the sets of Shah Rukh’s film “Duplicate” in 1998. He mentioned carrying director Mahesh Bhatt’s books when he was hungry and broke at that time. Despite knowing SRK from their university days, Anurag didn’t feel intimidated by his presence.

The actor from “Bad Cop” then recalled meeting the late producer Yash Johar who could sense his hunger on set. Yash Johar kindly offered food to the struggling filmmaker. Anurag described him as “kind and amazing” and remembered being taken aside and fed by the legendary producer.

Regarding why Anurag Kashyap and Shah Rukh Khan never collaborated on a project, the director once mentioned in an interview that he is “terrified by the fanbases of big stars”. He acknowledged that he wouldn’t be able to match SRK’s larger-than-life persona. Anurag expressed that he would only consider working with King Khan if his film “Fan” had been successful.

On the professional front, Anurag Kashyap last directed “Kennedy” in 2023. He also appeared as an actor in the series “Bad Cop” this year. Shah Rukh Khan is set to star in Sujoy Ghosh’s “King”, alongside Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan.
