Looking back: Angelina Jolie’s decision to part ways with Brad Pitt for the ‘wellbeing’ of her family
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been embroiled in a legal battle for years ever since they announced their separation in 2016, with Jolie filing for divorce from him. While the reasons for their split have not been publicly discussed much, Jolie once mentioned that she ended the relationship for the “wellbeing” of her family.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were a highly talked-about couple who first met on the set of their 2005 film Mr. & Mrs. Smith. They began dating a few years after working together on the movie.
During their time together, they made numerous public appearances and collaborated on two successful films. In 2014, Pitt and Jolie got married in a private ceremony in France. However, two years later, they separated when Jolie filed for divorce.
In an interview with Vogue India, Jolie discussed how she has created a “healthy environment” for her children after the separation. She stated, “I separated for the wellbeing of my family. It was the right decision.”
Jolie also mentioned that she is focused on her children’s healing amidst the separation and that her silence has been taken advantage of by some. She reassured her children that they know the truth and have their own minds, describing them as “six very brave and strong young people.”

According to People magazine, a source revealed in July 2024 that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are making progress towards a divorce settlement after nearly eight years since their separation. The source mentioned that they are still in discussions about remaining matters in the divorce negotiations.
In the same month, Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, stated that she wanted Pitt to “end the fighting” by dropping a lawsuit. If he didn’t, she would gather evidence to disprove his allegations.
Meanwhile, Jolie is starring as Maria Callas in the upcoming biographical drama Maria, while Pitt will appear in the sports action drama F1.
