The Monster That Wants to Consume Me: Scheduled for Release in 2025 – Latest Updates
The anime adaptation of This Monster Wants to Eat Me (Watashi wo Tabetai, Hitodenashi), a popular girl’s love manga series, is set to premiere in 2025. This announcement was made on October 21, 2024, via a teaser trailer uploaded on the official YouTube channel of Infinite Studios, the production company behind the project.
The anime will closely follow the storyline of the manga, created by Sai Naekawa. First serialized in August 2020, the manga combines the girl’s love genre with a supernatural twist aimed at a Seinen audience. The story follows high school girl Hinako Yaotose, who lives in a seaside town. Hinako possesses a unique allure that attracts nearby monsters who want to consume her. However, a mermaid named Shiori Oumi appears and offers to protect Hinako from other monsters, with the condition that she can devour her when the time comes. As their lives intertwine, their relationship takes unexpected turns.
The teaser trailer introduces Hinako to the mysterious world around her. A scene showing her meeting Shiori hints at the complex and intense relationship between the two characters. The teaser concludes with a striking image of Hinako and Shiori holding hands, with Shiori covered in blood.
Studio Lings, known for their work on Yuri is My Job!, will handle the animation. Key staff members include directors Naoyuki Kuzuya, from Rent-a-Girlfriend, and Yuusuke Suzuki, who contributed to To Love Ru Darkness. Mitsutaka Hirota, known for Eden’s Zero, will write the script, and Keiji Inai (Burn the Witch) will compose the music. Character designs will be done by Sou Ikuyama, who worked on Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World.
Reina Ueda, recognized for her role as Chinatsu in Blue Box, will voice the protagonist, Hinako Yaotose. More casting announcements are expected as the release date approaches.
Fans of the original manga are eagerly anticipating this adaptation, which aims to bring the unique blend of romance, drama, and supernatural elements to the small screen in 2025.
