According to E! News, Metcalfe revealed that the iconic scene where Kate convinces John to wear thong underwear and sends him to the wrong hotel room was not part of the original script. And perhaps, that was a good thing.
Metcalfe shared, “Actually, director Betty Thomas gently introduced the thong idea to me. She said, ‘Jesse, I want you to wear a thong in the movie.’ And initially, I was hesitant and replied, ‘What?! I don’t think so, that’s not going to happen.’
However, after three days of persuasion, Metcalfe changed his mind, stating, “It’s a comedy, you have to push boundaries to get a laugh. So I went for it. No regrets.”
He not only succeeded in getting laughs but also felt confident in his performance, saying, “I feel like I pull it off.”
Brittany Snow confirmed in an interview with Us Weekly that the intense gym sessions with Metcalfe before filming the scene were real. She praised his dedication and hard work, emphasizing, “That was really him. He worked really hard!”
