The storyline focuses on Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) who has decided to give up on her crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his negative comments about her. Penelope is now looking for a husband who will support her independent lifestyle as Lady Whistledown. However, her attempts at finding a suitable match fail. Meanwhile, Colin returns from his travels with a new look and more confidence, but he realizes that Penelope is avoiding him. Colin offers to help Penelope gain confidence to find a husband, but as their friendship deepens, he begins to question his feelings for her. Penelope also faces challenges with her rift with Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and struggles to keep her identity as Lady Whistledown a secret amidst her growing presence in high society.
