Even before Will Smith took the stage at the 2022 Oscars, the Academy Awards have always been full of surprising moments.
For example, five years earlier, during the acceptance speech for Best Picture by the cast and crew of La La Land, a major error was revealed: the award was actually meant for the coming-of-age drama Moonlight.
It was discovered that presenter Warren Beatty had been given the wrong envelope for Best Actress (which had been won by Emma Stone earlier in the evening), leading to a historic mistake.
This mishap was preceded by a few other smaller, yet memorable blunders, such as when John Travolta mistakenly introduced Frozen star Idina Menzel as Adele Dazeem at the 2014 Oscars.
